feet hamstrings and hock...

feet are good, trimmer says, and they do look a lot better all tidied up. he had a bit of grit in the white line, and a small bruise, probably stood on a stone hoolying in the field

she thought his hamstrings seemed very tight and he might benefit from some bodywork equine touch or bowen

he seems to have injured his right hock....that was new, it wasn't like that this morning! will have to have a close look in the morning to check it hasn't swollen more..

Tuesday 29 March 2011

niippy....

to the extent i was concerned i should have rugged, but he was warm enough... coats growing back, slowly

everyone at the new yard is very impressed at how chilled he is

and i'm very impressed with his willingness to be caught - i know, i've had him since december, BUT for most of that time he was being brought in evenings by YO at old yard, as they get in before i leave work in the winter...so he's not used to me going for him...

but he does know me, so i'm doing something right, LOL

trimmer tomorrow, hope she has no more disasters! reckon i'll have to work through lunch to leave early though..

Monday 28 March 2011

he enjoyed that!

and i enjoyed watching him go out... he was first out in his field, clocked the mares in the other field (other side of a road, quite a distance) and they clocked him - head up, tail up, wheeeeeee

excellent stuff...good to see him move!

clearly had a good day, and came in with no injuries....

Sunday 27 March 2011

tidying up and sorting out

more stuff got put away, saddle racks and rug rack got put up, some things got binned, and so on...

Monfy went in the arena this morning - he'll follow me around nicely, silly me forgot to put long boots on. must remember, any arena on the estate requires long boots (the alternative is a boot full of arena!)

thought about the same this afternoon, but decided not (partly because i'd misread the time and thought it was later than it was, and yes i had put my clocks forward an hour...)

looking forward to tomorrow - not because I'll be back at work after a week off, but because Monfy can go out in the field!

I'm thinking of doing something I've never done before - getting him a name plaque for the door, his name has to be explained so that might be easier!

Knackered. com

aftervmoving yards today.

He impresses me by his calm acceptance of change. And the first order of business was, of course roll in the new bed.

I shall need to lift the bed again as put first set of rubber mats down the wrong way so i can't get the rest down.

Friday 25 March 2011

bad day

trimmer didn't come -she had ended up stuck with a shredded type in the wilds of northumberland and no phone signal. Nightmare for her - and of course Monfy and i were unhappy as we did't know that until I'd given up waiting. Lunch was a bar of chocolate and i had no cups of tea between breakfast and treatise. And i didn't get half of what i wanted to do, done.
Hope tomorrow is Currently

Thursday 24 March 2011

trimmer tomorrow!

Hurray, trimmer coming tomorrow, instead of next week, so that's excellent news...

today had trip to bradford, international fim festival, saw "reuniting the rubins" excellent film, Timothy Spall, honor Blackman starring, if you get the chance to see it, do...(that was the premier, LOL)

then Salts Mill - last time i was there, i was put in a wheelchair as my foot was broken, was nice to be able to go round under my own steam this time!

Wednesday 23 March 2011

early summer?

been gorgeous weather this week - pretty amazing, given that i'm on holiday for the week! lots of laundry being line dried..

Decided to give monfy more time for his feet, and bearing in mind we're moving yard at the weekend..

his feet are getting there, and i'm much happier with him that way that i was a month ago! guess he's getting used to it, he's certainly standing better...

but he does need more grass! hopefully, the heat will be helping substantially on that front...

Monday 21 March 2011

naked monfils...

lovely day, mud dried up, so he went out rugless.... of course, as usual, first order of business was a roll, but a DRY roll! and he was fine...

bit concerned about his legs - seem to have lost some hair off the inside of his near hind, in a line up from fetlock to hock. i reckon it's standing in that horrid stuff near the gateway, happily that's drying up too ... Molly did the same a couple of winters ago....will keep a close eye on that though. it definitely wasn't like that saturday...

Sunday 20 March 2011

very tired...

still catching up on sleep after friday, i think, together with all the hard work yesterday......

monfy definitely starting to move better.....think the mud drying up will be helping as well! shan't be taking his rug off until there's no mud, though, he's such an avid roller...

Saturday 19 March 2011

done too much, my bad....

trying to get ahead of the game for the stable move next weekend .... tried to do as much as poss with right hand not left, and mostly managed, but have done a shade more than i should have done....

but funny this morning - turned up to do monf ... where's horse? ... looked in stable, all mucked out, haynet up ......

monf in field with others!

got a text later, YO's OH had read yesterday's job list, not today's!

never mind, saved me a job, so bottomed stable, bed now at the back, 3 mats up and hosed clean ready to go, a few things tidied up, some buckets scrubbed....

thinking, job a day until the end of the week...

and you may recall i mentioned the plan was to ride steady pony this weekend? not going to happen, the spring grass has turned rock steady pony into something totally different, even his owner came a cropper the other day ....so he's getting lots of lunging and hard feed cut out till he's back to being his usual steady self!

Friday 18 March 2011

2nd post of the day

and if someone can tell me

1. what's wrong with my broadband

and

2. why i can't post on a blog i'm allowed to post on (think it's a blogger problem, tbh)

i'd be grateful ...

a love day for a sad event

gorgeous sunny day, no wind ... drove to wrexham for funeral of Irving Tucker, who I RIP'd a couple of weeks ago.

massive turnout - large chapel at crematorium full - service conducted excellently by a humanist whose name i momentarily forget, some nice memories from a few people

Irving's ashes will be scattered over Yvonne's grave, the field where she was buried now being a wood (400 trees planted)

Monfy is ok, left him in capable hands of YO whilst i did that - actually very pleased i did, as it was a long enough day without going down to muck out etc first!

hopefully it's as nice a day tomorrow, i need to pay attention to his feet and that's best done outside, not in! also planning a ride on steady pony (welsh, but steady!) weather permitting.

Wednesday 16 March 2011

another new car

one of the reasons for the busy week. i hated that grey thing i bought in october, didn't want to spend any money on it ... so been a bad girl and got a newer one, nissan note ... bigger, better to drive, much improved driving position!

Monfy wrecked a rug, so badly it needs binning, which is what will happen to it....

luckily i have a goodly supply of such items.

and i've burnt my hand, didn't put it in oven glove properly and when taking bread out of breadmaker hand connected with hot pan .. ouchy

Tuesday 15 March 2011

two more days work

at work then holiday (not that Friday counts as holiday, to Wrexham for a funeral, that's a 3 1/2 hour drive each way)

colleague ended up leaving a meeting early, wife taken to hospital with suspected broken jaw, an injury from a horse! do hope all ok! so I may have to do a court appointment tomorrow, suit ready to be put in car to take to office in the morning...

monfy got the mud taken off (well, some of it, someone has bitten his neck again so i had to go a bit carefully) and his feet scrubbed out and stuff applied.

I do think my wrists are getting stronger, it's becoming easier to do feet every time i do, which is good!

Monday 14 March 2011

busy week...

so will only have time to do anything with Monf tomorrow....but then a week's holiday next week (that's why this week is a busy one, need to try to get stuff done in advance of the week off...)

but he does seem to be walking out better so i'm starting to get on top of the foot soreness with the hoofs tuff stuff, i hope!

and i have my physio appointment - 8th april!

Sunday 13 March 2011

cancelled lesson

i cancelled my next Becky lesson which had been in the diary for today, because of Monfy's footsoreness.

but frankly, it's just as well - the arena has reverted to bog due to the amount of rain we've had since Friday afternoon .....

but i think he must be improving - yesterday he cantered out, today, he came full pelt across the field to me to be in!

front feet are looking better than the backs, i reckon it's the backs that are the real problem - i guess he could turn out to be one of those that needs to be shod behind at least...

Saturday 12 March 2011

a good sight this morning

As i turned Monfy out

walk... trot... buck to canter, and canter on down the field to the bottom field

he's starting to feel better, i haven't seen him do that before.

Thursday 10 March 2011

he might be footsore

but the flapping strap under his rug made him move! we'd had a howling gale all day and he'd managed to get a strap undone so you can imagine ...

just for a wonder, i was there in time to get him in myself tonight, unusual on a work night as they're all nearly always in time i get there (if only just) so i was glad about that.

i hasten to add he's not lame as such just clearly not right

have cancelled the lesson i'd organised for sunday (becky was coming again for some more in hand work) and have sent trimmer a message

but i've ALSO found the hoof hardening stuff....

Wednesday 9 March 2011

the concensus

seems to be that Monfy is footsore - yes he pulled something the other week, but that's sorted, but generically footsore....

so i'll send message to trimmer (she's not due to the 30th) and will then need to take a view as to how long to give him before caving in and putting shoes back on.....

mmmmm

Monday 7 March 2011

hms Manchester in st lucia

Watching the tell, the navy trying to help after a massive hurricane and remembering we were there last year. Very sad.

In the meantime, Monfy walked out sound tonight and walked him round the arena -he was loose, i was watching his feet. Will turn out tomorrow and see how we go.

Sunday 6 March 2011

RIP Irving Tucker

my late cousin's widower.

very sad...

got the news this morning, and had to drive up to tell my mother in person.

monfy was, i think i said, lame last night. this morning there was a bit of heat and a touch of swelling above the right hoof. last night, however, there was no heat. thinking, more of before. so he spent the day in - and i finally found the boot i was looking for (you put it in cold water, it makes the crystalline gel inside cold, put it on instead of cold hosing...) it was where i thought it should have been, but much easier to find in daylight!

tonight? sound. I turned him out in the arena for 10 minutes whilst i did chores, then went in and he followed me round for circuit. In the meantime, he'd rolled - he sure loves rolling...

so do i turn out tomorrow or not? think i will, and see how he goes (unless he's clearly wrong when i pull him out in the morning). the mud is drying up nicely at any rate

Saturday 5 March 2011

lame again

No swelling or heat but probably after effects of earlier in theweek.

Someone said sore feet but that is not logical in the circus.

Could be brewing an access, i Wouldn't

Friday 4 March 2011

just for a change

monfy was still out when i got to the yard after work - he's normally been brought in already, as no one leaves any horse out on his own - there were two still out after that - i was quite pleased, as really they've been coming in a bit soon now the nights are lighter

he seemed sound enough but i'll be keeping a careful eye and not doing anything with him for a couple more days yet, i reckon...

Thursday 3 March 2011

looking better!

so i reckon i'll turn him out in the morning....

the mud has been drying out some more (as well as freezing overnight) so hopefully should be ok.

Wednesday 2 March 2011

cold hosing in the cold

is an unentertaining pastime! but has to be done, unless i can find that dratted boot (which i won't, until i pack again, i can see that...). the boot is one of the sort you put in cold water and it has crystals in it, you then put it on afflicted leg and don't have to stand cold hosing.... ah well

and of course, this was the week i bought haylage ...which ain't cheap ....

Tuesday 1 March 2011

he's pulled something

probably because the mud is drying up and thus making it more difficult to pull a foot out.

so right front ....

cold hosing. can't find that wrap i had that you put in cold water and then put on the leg, know i haven't tossed it but where it is is another matter...

keep him in for a couple of days and then see...
