what to do?

apart from sort out lunge lessons....

do i keep the stable on? thus have a space for my fifth horse when i buy him/her?

not keep the stable on? thus needing to find somewhere to store all the stuff ... and then have to find a stable when i find the horse! would hate to find a horse and then not have somewhere to keep it!

one thing IS for certain, if i find my fifth horse in the not too distant future, it will have to be on full livery as I won't be fit for mucking out for a bit, even if i am fit to do other stuff....

think I'm finding this a bit depressing, really!

  1. It's difficult, isn't it. Of course, it depends on how long it takes you to find another horse. Will you keep it at the same place as Molly, therefore requiring another stable, or will she spend her retirement elsewhere? Your new horse would then presumably take over Molly's stable? It can get expensive holding a stable.

  2. Maybe best to search for the new one after the winter, that way you can build up your fitness (in the wrist depatment) slowly and then you avoid the horrid time of the year to own horses. Mind you if you're like me you'll want to get one sooner rather than later. You need a plan rather than letting it get you down, then you can look forward to things to come.

  3. I guess it depends on how much they charge for you to hold the space. I did it one time for about !/4 of what full board was. Cost me about 6 months before I found the right horse, but it was worth it in the end. The hassle of having a horse with no place to go is pretty worrisome.

  4. As Jean says, it's partly a matter of what it costs and what you can afford. Could you oust Molly into a field (Tetley was fine outside 24/7 - just have to have the right rug and enough food) when you find your next horse?

  5. :( How frustrating for you. Can only echo the advice to do what you can afford, if you like where you are it's worth reserving the space if possible.

Also like what Trudi said about making a plan, and perhaps if you waited until after winter, your wrist would have had more time to heal and mucking out/stabling wouldn't be such an issue?
