i took a photo of the sole of his foot as i couldn't see it properly otherwise - friend held foot up and torch for light ... he isn't going back out in that mud until it's healed up.
The dry stable will probably be the best place for him for now. Poor Monfils will not be happy about it, but his soundness and a healthy hoof are more important than frolicking about in the muck.
