he wanted to be in eating, so he's in, eating. hope i left enough, LOL.
We are not allowed to supplementary feed in the field.
before leaving him in, i took him n the arena to practice the lunging ... after gaynor's sterling efforts last sunday and my in hand work this week, thought i'd give that one another shot... improving for me, but still only in walk.
he really doesn't like the lunge whip "doing" anything... hold it still, fine, do anything with it, not fine...
one has to wonder why.
not that he gets nasty or anything, but he does stop doing anything the minute it moves ...
You might do some in hand, close up work with the whip. Rub it all over his body, assure him it is safe. Then, gradually, tap it on the ground or give it a flick and lead him forward with your hand when you do. If he takes a step forward, praise him mightily. Let him know that moving forward from the whip's presence is a really good thing.
ReplyDeleteCould be he was hit. My PJ simply shut down and froze the first time he was "threatened" with a lunge whip. He simply would not move. (There's much more to this story, but I'll leave it there.) I think he was hit on the track.
But, for now, even getting Mofils to go around at the walk is a good start. Unfortunately, that whip is an invaluable aid as it kind of works like an "attachment" to his hind end the way the line attaches in front in order to keep him moving forward within that triangle.
You are a patient and good "mom." I am sure you can help him understand what you want.
Getting results in walk is good, consolidate that and you'll be well on the way!
