treacherous ice

in the yard this morning so i took the view that if i was iffy about standing up on it, then Monfy would be too, and kept him in. that was despite the thaw - it hadn't, at that time, got as far as the packed ice underneath

so he went out for an hour this afternoon, and not sure he was too fussed about that!

the ground is still solid so they're all having to be careful out there ...and think it'll be a while before it's fully thawed (and turned into mud, eugh)

in the meantime, we went for a walk - and i had been right to say we could NOT do what partner wanted (recce 7 miles!) so only went round cassop country park

in the meantime, here's a stable visitor ...

  1. Poor little birdies are coming into my barn, the carport, and the garage when I had it open. I think they are just looking for a dry spot to rest their little feet.

Do take care with the ice. Had that happen hear a couple years ago and I kept the Boys in for days. No reason to take any chances--with either you or Monfy.

  2. Snow is so much easier when it gets cold, snows and stays cold. This freeze/thaw cycle causes so many problems. Low 20's F (staying -5 and colder) is actually a very workable temp.

In our barn there is insulation lining the ceiling and that is where the birds are. At first I thought the horses somehow reached up and pulled some of the insulation off but I saw birds doing it today.
