Pretty and not so pretty. Those icicles look like daggers!
Did you ever see the film "A Christmas Story?" It is very American, but a falling icicle plays a significant role. Every time I see one I think of the phrase, "You'll shoot your eye out." (The film is a "must see" for the holiday over here.)
I guess the pond critters know how to deal with the cold and snow. They seem to survive out in the wild somehow. Hope this habitat affords the same "conveniences" as natural ones.
I think the newts will be warmer with an insulating layer of snow on top of them, then if it was only cold with no snow. It looked almost like snow here this morning but nothing came out of the sky.
