looking on horsemart

i like the look of this mare, but she's 5 hours drive away! and possibly overpriced when i look at the prices for similar up here!

but this gelding is a new advert and a very tasty price, not TOO far (about 3 hours?)

and there's this gelding a bit nearer home, but why only for a happy hacker? (mind, i do want a happy hack! LOL) A bit taller than I would have wanted, but worth a look nonetheless! probably to totally reschool, however, if he's pointed & hunted!

and this one, but i rather think he hasn't been restarted after giving up racing...

I did have a look on projecthorses, but i don't really need another project!

Of that selection of OTTB's, i reckon the first 2 might fit the bill....

  1. Are you looking to buy a thoroughbred Claire? Just wondered as all the ads were for tb's. Also, are you looking for a project/retraining prospect or something that's well schooled and been there, done that! Not being nosy, just interested.

  2. Pretty is as pretty does. You need calm, happy, cooperative, brave, and sound. Might find a TB that fits the bill and might not.

And frankly, at this point, I'd tend to stay away from "project horses." Haven't you been working on a project for five years already. It's time to enjoy riding. (Mom lecture over. *G*)

  3. definitely, Jean! mind, some of them are NOT projects, as such...but i so agree. i don't mind training on, but not a project! and one that is already known to ride out happily!

  4. something within my budget, Di, and nothing wrong with a TB as such if you get the right one...I've no objection to one that has been restarted, taught to stand still to mount, and will go out with no problems but would need schooling on...one that has been there, done that and still got life in him/her would be beyond budget unless on loan ....

  5. anyway, one has to start on horsemart somewhere, and looking by breed is as good a way as any other, LOL

  6. I love TB's, just never found one that wasn't a bit 'wired' although I had quite a few before I gave up trying.

  7. Exciting news...horse shopping!!
There are a lot of cheap horses about at the minute im sure you'll find what your looking for just go and see as many as you can face.
Word of mouth is the best way if possible but things tend to happen more slowly that way
Have you looked on horsedeals and horsequest too?
